Online Social Casinos at New England Casino Websites

Last Monday, we revisited the rise of the social casino through Facebook, apps, and sponsored by gaming’s giants, such as MGM, Caesars, Aristocrat, Scientific Gaming and IGT.  If you missed it, take a moment to look back at “Online Social Casinos”

Out of seven brick-and-mortar casinos in New England, five have social gaming available. Only Newport Grand in Newport, Rhode Island & Oxford Casino in Oxford, Maine don’t offer these type of online gaming. Today we will take a look at all five casinos that do offer them, starting in Connecticut.

Foxwoods Resort Casino – Foxwoods Online

Foxwoods rolled out a new version of it’s social casino over a year ago.  It contains four rooms of slots, names for different Foxwoods casino areas, each needing a higher level of play to unlock new games. It features slots by Spins Gaming, Konami Gaming, GreenTube Interactive Gaming from Europe, and Nektan Gaming.

Foxwoods Online Lobby

Video Poker – no full pay, but decent, including NSUDuesces Wild.

Other Games –  include two Blackjack, two roulette games (one with a single zero), 4 Keno games

Rewards – Points earned through play can be used for two types of rewards – Entertainment (gas card, & Tanger Coupon Book) and Casino rewards, such as Bonus Slot play, free BJ, Roulette or Keno bet, more credits or Foxwoods Rewards points added to your rewards card.

Mohegan Sun Online

Mohegan Sun offers three different options for online gaming.

1) The Play4Fun casino is slots only, and for entertainment only – there is no connection to the Momentum Rewards.  You start off with only 3 available  slot machines (Brazilian Beauty, Kronos, & Jungle Wild) plus one reel slot machine. More slots are made available as you rise in level. All slots are can be found in real casinos and are IGT/Scientific games based, many of which you would find at other social casino sites such as Jackpot Party. Tournaments are available for fun only.

2) Fantasy Sports – FanDuel has teamed up with Mohegan Sun to bring MLB fans free contests where you can win prizes at the Sun.  For

example this week’s prizes include a One-night hotel stay at Mohegan Sun, plus — $900 in food & beverage credits.

3) MoheganSunCasino.com – Because the Mohegan Tribal Nation runs casino operations at Resorts in Atlantic City, they can offer a true online casino, featuring over 300 online slots, 17 table games, 18 video poker options.  Unfortunately, you have to be within the border to be able to bet real money.  It is open 24/7 and licensed by the State of New Jersey.

Twin River Casino – Play TwinRiver

Twin River opened its online social casino recently with the past year.

Slots – It features slots by Spins Gaming, Everi Gaming, Gan Gaming, Konami Gaming, Ainswirth, Incredible Technologies, and more. Unlike many other social casinos, TR’s has almost 70 slots that are all available, no matter what level you are on.  It’s quite a varied selection of brick-and-mortar casino slots and software slots – some with progressives!

Video Poker – full pay JOB, and other decent paytables, including NSUDuesces Wild.  VP games are similar to Foxwoods Online, made by Spin Gaming.

Poker – either straight up, or tournaments, a wide variety is available.

Other Games –  include two Blackjack, two roulette games (one with a single zero), 4 Keno games, poker, and even solitaire. HollywoodCasino.comPlainridge Park Casino,  & Hollywood Casino, Hotel & Raceway

Similar to Mohegan Sun’s Play4Fun casino, all Penn National casinos allowed to have social casinos (some states don’t) is slots only, and for entertainment only – there is no connection to the Marquee Rewards. One difference offered by HollywoodCasino.com is that you can buy credits from your Marquee Rewards account, as long as you connect the two, which takes little time.

In addition to a sign up bonus and free credits every month is Race Champ, a simulated horse race to use credits on.  Choose a horse from the field, bet trifectas with the help of the “trifecta slot,” then watch a real race for your winning horse.  Winners get additional credits.

Currently Newport Grand & Oxford Casino do not have online gaming available.

Which is best?

Here is the order from best top down, according to NETG experiences:

  1. Foxwoods Online – Real rewards make this a winner.
  2. Play TwinRiver – Bonuses and the vast amount of games available to players makes this a close second
  3. HollywoodCasino.com – The additional games to the usual online gaming casino seen at Mohegan Sun’s website and and many other casinos for that matter, makes this the third best option.
  4. Mohegan Sun Online – Online casino is just “meh,”  but if you’re in New Jersey, poker for real money makes this a good play.  The connection to FanDuel doesn’t hurt either, if you are into fantasy sports.

Well, that does it.  Try them out and let us know what you think.  We’d love to hear from you.

Online Social Casinos

download (1)A growing trend is the number of “brick-and-mortar”casinos to offer online casinos from their websites.  These games are for fun and not like true online gaming where you use real money and can possibly make real money like an actual casino. However, for the most part, internet gambling is illegal in the US, except a few states which allow internet poker within state borders.  That and whether Daily Fantasy Sports is gambling is another topic for another date.  (Yes, it’s gambling.)

Two years ago, only three casinos in New England offer a social gaming site as well – Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun, and Hollywood Casino, Hotel & Raceway. Wednesday, we will look at the social gaming available now through our seven New England casinos.  Today, we look at social gaming at it is in general.

Social Casinos, either from a casino website or through the many apps available, seem to be thriving.  They are more like playing casino games without real money.  However, the player can buy more credits to continue playing.

Why play at all if it’s not real gambling?  According to Casino.org, people can play for free in their browser or smart phone almost anywhere, and win real prizes.  “Facebook is the most popular social media platform for online games… [and] Out of all of the people who gamble on social media, 61% of them do it on Facebook.”

According to GamblingSites.com, social gaming companies use different strategies to get you to share and come back to play their games:

  • Continuous goals. – You are given different goals to achieve, each one harder and more time consuming than the last. Each action you take will push you towards a goal that can lead to higher gaming capital.
  • Gaming capital. – This comes in many forms, such as badges, trophies, accolades and achievements. These can be earned by playing or by completing tasks, such as sharing the game or your results to your profile.

There are casinos with their own mix of games, and there are others that specifically represent a slot company.  A quick review of the favorites include:

Slotomania – Slotomania offers slots, slots, and more slots, all on multi mobile platforms.  None of their slots can be found in brick-and-mortar casinos.

CaesarsCasino – This online casino is connected to the Caesars Entertainment, formally Harrah’s & Bally’s.  It includes blackjack, roulette, video poker & baccarat as well as tons of slots from numerous slots makers. Casino promotions with extra credits are offered.  It is also connected to their rewards program, Total Rewards. You can convert your Online Reward Credits to cash deposited directly into your account. For every 1,000 Reward Credits converted, they will add $10 to your available cash balance.

DoubleDown Casino

Double Down Casino,  – They offer a whole slew of options: free slots, free bingo, free poker, free video poker, and free blackjack, all on Facebook. Not only that, but you can also download their mobile app and do some gambling on your mobile device (smartphone or tablet). Everything is free at DoubleDown Casino.  They offer mostly IGT based slots.  DD has slot, VP and other tournaments daily.

myVegas, – myVEGAS was named “Best of 2016” by iGaming Business and eGaming Review. It features exclusive freebies and bonuses with MGM partners like BELLAGIO, ARIA, MGM GRAND, CIRQUE DU SOLEIL, ROYAL CARIBBEAN, VDARA, MIRAGE, NEW YORK NEW YORK, and CIRCUS CIRCUS.  They also include offers from other sources not affiliated with MGM, such as Stations Casinos (Las Vegas), Gray Line Tours, Genting Gaming, Royal Caribbean, and more.  There are also two other myVegas sites, one for just blackjack and the other featuring Konami slots, such as “China Shores.”

Jackpot Party, & HotShotCasinoSlots (Facebook) feature IGT / Scientific Games slots, similar to Double Down Casino, but offer slots only.  Jackpot Party was Williams Interactive’s entry into the world of social casinos before they were consumed by Scientific Gaming. Progressive slots are featured daily.

Aristocrat’s Heart of Vegas features  features slots made by Aristocrat Gaming, originally from Australia.  You will find Buffalo, MoreChili, Wonder 4, and many more of your favorites made by Aristocrat.  Progressive slots are featured daily.

Is there a downside to social gaming? – Many, such as Dr. Mark Griffiths, a Professor of Gambling Studies at Nottingham Trent University’s International Gaming Research Unit, think it might lead the person to signing up to a real money casino with unrealistic expectations. Or, maybe manipulate them into buying in-game purchases to try to win more often, since “the behavioral and social conditioning of social slots and gaming is no different to real-money gambling, apart from the fact you’re not “risking” real money.”

Another downside, considered by communities around the country with casinos that also offer “free” social gaming is the consideration of addiction – addictions that don’t have to come down to winning or losing money. But that “addiction can also come in the form of time spent. The time you lose playing these games can have a negative impact on your life, too,” so says Dr. Griffiths.

More research needs to be completed before conclusions are found.  But one thing is for sure – it has become big fun for players, and big money for gaming companies.

Wednesday, we look into the social gaming sites offered by New England’s casinos.  Tomorrow, we pause from the playing and turn to ComiConn at Foxwoods.
