A Sun, A Suite, and a Cannoli
Staycations can be as good as vacations. Our anniversary celebration occurred at Mohegan Sun last Wednesday, which turned out to be better than I imagined. So here’s our report about our experience, Our Anniversary at Mohegan Sun.
Ascend – Those Were the Days, My Friends
There are five levels for rewards members who use your Momentum card at Mohegan Sun. I have had the Ascend level for the last six months for the first time. The Ascend status card is available to guests who earn 1,400 Status Points during the six-month qualifying period. This level is not easy for low to middle-rolling video poker players.
Ascend members have 800 Choice Credits (CC) each month. Guests can use Choice Credits for VIP Lounge access, hotel stays, suite upgrades, golf, scooter rentals, and Arena show tickets. This information will be essential to understand for our following Anniversary Celebration Review.

Ascend has a tiny separate lobby for hotel check-in. When using your CC, you book the room online, and as long as you have enough CC, you can apply them for a comped room when you arrive. The number of credits needed for a comped room can be 0 – 9999 ($9999 means “don’t even think of it on that night!”). The number of credits also depends on whether it’s a weekday or weekend and how busy that night is at the casino.
Jackpot – Our Anniversary at Mohegan Sun
I wasn’t surprised to get a room on a Wednesday night for only 300 CC. But I was surprised to see it was a Luxury Sky Suite! When it was open, we stayed in some suites in Las Vegas – Aria, Westgate, Vdara – and Aspire at Mohegan Sun. But it was beautiful, spacious, and a great way to start our Anniversary celebration. See our pics below.
It had a living room with a dining table for four, a fireplace, one and a half bathrooms, and a massive bedroom with a walk-in closet.
The moral of this story is that whether you’re visiting Mohegan Sun or elsewhere, don’t be afraid to look for deals.
We unpacked, put our feet up, had an Athletic Brewing Company Stout, watched TV, and relaxed. I couldn’t stop giggling that we had this room for the night.
We went to Ballo for supper. Then, of course, I somehow found a way to tell our waiter about our anniversary everywhere I went.
We had our favorite combination – both appetizers – making a wonderful meal and just the right size. We both ordered Caesar salad with their gigantic meatballs and sauce.
Then, Ballo surprised us with complimentary Anniversary Cannolis – their special cannoli box.
We went back upstairs to our suite (giggling again), hearing that disco tune “Mr. Big Stuff” in my head. We watched more TV in the living room, then had a great night’s sleep. I think I giggled in my sleep, too.
The Next Day
We slept in and then went to the VIP Lounge in the Sky Casino. It’s a great breakfast place, and everyone except Core Status can use CC to get in on Monday thru Thursday. It’s a great small buffet set-up. And, before 10:00 AM, it’s quiet, usually empty in the morning, and something we look forward to.
I played a little in the casino, made a little money, went upstairs, and proceeded to take our time packing. Check-out time is until Noon.
Thank you, Mohegan Sun, for a relaxing and joyful anniversary weekend. It’s back to Leap status now. But we had trouble using 800 credits as it was. It’s hard to find contentment at any casino, but this was the place and time for #37!
Next year, maybe we’ll try it again in the Sun for our 38th anniversary.
