Massachusetts Moving Forward Towards Legal Sports Betting

The Massachusetts Senate has put the brakes on a sports-betting bill. It was pulled from legislation by the Massachusetts Senate. They denied a $459m economic development package that would have made the State the 24th market in the US to approve legalized sports betting.

Had the sports wagering provision been a part of the legislation, the leading proposal included an application fee of $250,000 covering the first five years of operation with a $100,000 renewal fee for the second five years.

Encore Boston Harbor Furloughs and Midweek Closures

Business has been “very slow” at Encore Boston Harbor, especially on weekdays. Unfortunately, they now must implement a rolling schedule of closures by day of week.

Massachusetts Table Games Additional Disappointment

Roulette will not return to the state’s three casinos in the immediate future, nor will craps or poker. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission declined to expand the slate of games offered. Both MGM Springfield and Encore Boston Harbor had asked the commission to authorize craps and roulette. Unfortunately, commissioners agreed that now is not the time to do so.

Connecticut Mandates Regional Travel Advisory

The State of Connecticut has issued a Regional Travel Advisory, which directs anyone traveling into Connecticut from certain states to self-quarantine for a 14-day period. (Connecticut State guidelines) Click Here for the states included.

Casinos See Different Revenue Results Reopening Before Other casinos

Mohegan Sun posted a modest year-over-year gain in slot-machine revenue last month while Foxwoods Resort Casino’s revenue plummeted, newly released data show.  Mohegan Sun reported it “won,” or kept, $47.5 million after paying out prizes, a 1.7% increase over the $46.7 million it kept in July 2019. Foxwoods kept $30.5 million, a 19.8% decrease over the $38 million it kept a year earlier.

Foxwoods Opens Little by Little 

All four casinos are now open. The Grand Pequot and Great Cedar Casinos and Tanger Outlets are open daily. The Fox Tower and Rainmaker Casinos are open Friday–Sunday, 12PM–2AM. New openings include HighFlyer Zipline, Cedar’s Steak & Oysters and Hard Rock Café.

Foxwoods Offers Two Casino Multiplier Promotions

  • On August 29th & 30th, Foxwoods will offer 4X TIER CREDITS days, each day beginning at 6:00AM. This promotion is available on both slots or table games.
  • Another multiplier on two days, August 22nd, is POINTZILLA. The Rewards multiplier, 2x,3xor 4x, will change throughout the day, 9am–8pm. Available on both slots or table games

The Mohegan Sun Casino Will Lay Off Employees

The Mohegan Sun casino said it will lay off an unspecified number of employees due to impacts from the coronavirus pandemic. The company said Thursday it is ending its furlough program on Sept. 30. Mohegan Sun President & General Manager Jeff Hamilton said the move will reduce their workforce among employees who have not been called back to work before the end of September.

Rhode Island Casinos

As with the Maine casinos, Twin River and Tiverton Casinos have no promotions at this time. Both locations have extended their hours of operation.  Sportsbook Rhode Island is now open in Lincoln and Tiverton. The hours will be 12pm to 8pm, Wednesdays – Sundays (until further notice).
