Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. have dominated the New England casino landscape for over 20 years. Three New England tribal casinos are in different stages of construction in the process of being built besides
- In Massachusetts, the Aquinnah Cliffs Casino is finally under construction. Built on tribal land on Martha’s Vineyard, it will be a Class II casino. However, resident complaints about building codes are holding up progress.
First Light Resort in Taunton may never see completion. Litigation with Taunton residents and federal initiatives have kept this project from breaking ground.
The Connecticut legislature approved Tribal Winds Casino, a joint venture between the Mohegan & Pequot tribes in CT. However, numerous gambling considerations, especially sports betting, and litigation stalled this project. With troubles during the pandemic and the future of legal sports and online wagering seriously being discussed now, this casino is not scheduled to proceed.
