Mohegan Sun Arena is transforming itself once again when hosting the Big East Women’s Tournament this weekend. Many other college tournaments are turning to this enclosed format as well. When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. When a pandemic empties your arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, you make it into “Bubbleville, Connecticut!” Mohegan Sun Is Bubbling Over With Big East Tournament.
Mohegan Sun Arena Is Perfect Choice for Big East
Four days of NCAA Women’s basketball featuring all 11 BIG EAST teams and 10 games. The BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Tournament is a 10-game postseason event, featuring all 11 BIG EAST teams (Butler, UConn, Creighton, DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, St. John’s, Seton Hall, Villanova, Xavier), including the reigning champion Blue Demons and 18-time champion Huskies.
The Big East has a three-year contract with the Sun. Having the perennial final four and champion UConn Huskies just a stone’s throw away doesn’t hurt, either.
The 10,000-seat Mohegan Sun Arena, home to the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun, will serve as a single site, with secluded hotel areas and enormous square footage for team social distancing.
“You feel safe, you know you can get a game in here, and you know the team you’re playing is going to be safe. I think that’s going to be important throughout this year to find environments like this.”Jay Wright, Villanova’s head coach, through “Bubbleville” at Mohegan Sun earlier in the year
