Encore Boston Harbor Opens this weekend. Steve Wynn always said he was “in the resort business, not the casino business.” Wynn resorts have always had a passion for “wowing” guests. As a result, his resort design in Boston will do just that.
Encore Boston Harbor raises the bar far above the rest in many ways. But, Has Encore Boston Harbor Met Expectations? After my two-day visit recently, I would like to check my expectations of Encore Boston Harbor.
The “WOW” Factor
Wynn resorts have always had a passion to “wow” guests by designing incredible resorts. The vision is to offer amazing amenities, fine dining, premium retail offerings, and incredible entertainment. Let’s take one of these at a time.
Amenities & Dining
Elements of comfort and convenience – what Wynn has been known for since the Mirage days in Las Vegas. From the completely remote-controlled hotel rooms to the transportation possibilities, Encore is Amenities with a capital “A.” Expectation met.
Fine Dining – Dining is all above and beyond what has been seen in New England. The acclaimed Rare Steakhouse will headline the dining options. Encore Boston Harbor also includes an emphasis on locally inspired venues. This includes Fratelli, a casual Italian restaurant and bar created by Boston North End entrepreneurs Frank DePasquale and Nick Varano.
Exquisite Buffet – Inside and out, the Buffet is amazing, from the food entrance to the presentation. So is the price. But would you expect anything different? Price matches the experience. Expectation met, sort of. You see, because it’s on the casino floor, no one under 21 can enjoy the buffet. Don’t plan on taking the family. Kids are not allowed.
Please note – due to the pandemic, the buffet is closed for good. We’re very sorry to hear this. It was by far the finest buffet in New England casinos.

Ok, it has a Dunkin Donuts. We’ve all been to DD, but nothing like this. It’s the only Dunkin to have a marble floor! And because it’s on the casino floor, it’s not accessible to any children. ‘Nuff said. Expectation met.
Encore Boston Harbor Hotel
Reports are that the hotel rooms are exactly the quality expected. While the rooms are beige-themed, there is nothing beige about what the rooms offer. State-of-the-art conveniences such as voice-activated lights, curtains, heating, air-conditioning, and privacy settings bring it all to your fingertips. The rooms exude the highest quality.
The Hotel is 27-floors with 671 rooms, including 104 luxury suites. According to PRNewswire.com, in April of 2019, “Wynn Resorts ….. earned the distinction of being the highest-scoring hotel company in the world as rated by Forbes Travel Guide. They outranked all other luxury hotel brands the company reviews. In short, that is a total of 1,105 hotels in 58 countries. Actually, Wynn Resorts exceeded the likes of The Ritz Carlton Hotel Company and Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, among others.”
Encore Boston Harbor’s “smallest room” is 650 square feet, Premier King. In fact, it is the largest standard hotel room in the Boston area and New England. Wynn resorts always pay attention to the highest quality and innovation. Accordingly, this hotel includes
- 507-thread-count linens,
- overstuffed pillows and shams,
- state-of-the-art conveniences voice-activated lights,
- privacy settings.
The highest-quality suite will be the Signature Harbor View Suite. It combines the comfort and amenities of a 1,350-square-foot Signature Suite. Furthermore, it has a pristine view of Boston Harbor and the city skyline.
Did expectations meet? Are you kidding? It’s Wynn we’re talking about here!
Has Encore Boston Harbor Met Expectations? (Cont’d)
Retail – Wynn Corp. cut back shopping, but the shops included are pure high-end. Still, the amount of retail options is a far cry from The Wynn and Encore Esplanades in Las Vegas. Expectations not met.
Entertainment – This is to be seen. However, the nightclub option is top-notch. Expectation? Let’s check back later in the year. If anything like the opening fireworks, I’d say Encore Boston Harbor will meet guest expectations.
State-of-the-art convention and meeting space
This part of the resort is beautiful. As you walk down the hallway of fine dining, you come upon Popeye, exquisite art, and a well-planned all-purpose meeting area. Walk past the Picasso Ballroom, and you look upon the South Lawn and the Harbor Walk. It’s truly stunning. Expectation met again.
Harborwalk, Park & Shuttles, oh My
The intention from the beginning was to offer “Boston’s most magnificent outdoor gathering spot.” So as not to spoil future reports, let’s say you must visit it to appreciate all the planning of this area—expectations beyond the meeting.
Casino – Has Encore Boston Harbor Met Expectations?
Gambling – Lots of playable video poker, even at the quarter level. Table minimums are high but are better in the morning and early afternoon. $15 Craps, $15 Pai Gow & $25 Bac. Not bad for mid to high rollers.
Elegance is most used for Wynn & Encore Las Vegas casinos, and the same magnificent gaming floor is present in Everett. The two spacious sections, with wonderfully high ceilings, have hand-assembled red Murano glass chandeliers. They are transplanted from their original home at Encore at Wynn Las Vegas, and each costs $150,000 each. Just one example of the spacious and beautiful casino – a casino to rival any in the country. But not just visually, but auditory as well. The speaker system attached to the casino columns is loud, clear, and provides amazing sound all day. Expectation? Double-check.
The Star of the Show
The real star of the show at Encore Boston Harbor is the property in its entirety. Without walking around the halls, the casino, and the vast Harbor Walk, you deny yourself the truly unique and awesome flavor called Encore Boston Harbor. No one can truly appreciate this project without taking it ALL in at least once.
One thing is for sure; the Boston area has waited too long for this casino this resort. I believe it will exceed everyone’s expectations.
