The Biggest Bets
Australian media mogul Kerry Packer made great bets, which led to his exile from a few famous casinos. Packer attempted to produce arguably the biggest wager ever placed when he encountered a bold Texas tycoon who proudly stated his worth of $100 million to impress Packer. The unimpressed billionaire Packer offered the Texan to wager all $100 million on the flip of a coin, which he quickly declined.
But since that bet was never officially made, the title of the biggest bet goes to Floyd Mayweather. He wagered $5.9 million on Miami Heat to beat Indiana Pacers in 2013. Thankfully for Mayweather, his team won, and he came away with a somewhat small return of $600,000. You would have thought a bet that cost $5.9 million would bring in more than $600,000.
This list makes me wonder about other gambling superlatives, like the longest time playing at any game. In any event, any record or casino industry could be broken anytime. So let’s hope that the next record-setting jackpot is by you or me. Good Luck.
