Casino Player Best Of Gaming Awards – New England Casinos Part 1

Earlier this week, NETimeGambling posted Mohegan Sun’s BestOf USAToday’s award. Just a reminder, there are many awards out there, and sometimes they seem rather conflicted. Today, we check out the 25th Annual Casino Player Best of Gaming Awards – New England Casinos.

Casino Player

Casino Player Best of Gaming Awards - New England Casinos.

Casino Player is America’s most popular gaming magazine, with a monthly readership of more than 100,000+ casino visitors. Each month, Casino Player provides articles on casino life. Casino Player has a variety of top gaming authors supplying gaming strategies and “tips to help make you a winner.” Every issue of Casino Player includes insights into gambling, entertainment, dining, or shopping interests regionally, as well as casinos across the country.

Casino Player and its sister publication, Strictly Slots, has been a recreational gambler’s resource for more than thirty years. Let’s look at their 25th Annual Best of Gaming Awards as it pertains to our New England Casinos.

In New England’s grouping, Casino Player posts 40 categories. Only those areas where most of our nine casinos compete were included in our report. For example, Rhode Island is the best in Sports betting since no other state in New England has legalized sports wagering. Another example is golf courses. Since only Connecticut casinos have them, that category wasn’t included.

I am . Here is the medal count (you know, like the Olympics):

Casino Gold Silver Bronze Total

Mohegan Sun 9 14 5 28

Foxwoods 10 12 5 27

Twin River 3 3 10 16

Encore Boston Harbor 4 1 5 10

MGM Springfield 2 2 4 8

Plainridge Park 3 1 0 4

The Casino Player Best of Gaming Awards – New England Casinos

If you remember, I am not one for the popular voting of awards. So, please keep in mind NETimeGambling is just reporting Casino Player’s results. With thousands of casinos to compare, I’m sure New England casino stats were not efficiently checked or updated. Massachusetts casinos are worthy competitors but seem to be snubbed. And, imagine, Mohegan Sun was selected as the Best Bingo Hall. Guess what, Casino Player, Mohegan Sun hasn’t had bingo in almost 15 years! Foxwoods has the only Bingo hall in New England!

But, these awards are great discussion starters. Let’s take a look.

And The Winners Are….

Ok, once again, the Connecticut Casinos dominated, but not like in previous years. Massachusetts casinos and even Twin River Casino made inroads this year. Expect more as MGM Springfield and Encore settle into New England.

Mohegan Sun

“Neon Uncasville” topped the polls in Best Rooms, Best Pool, Best Spa, and Favorite Casino Resort to Vacation At. Gambling bests include Best Craps, Best Slot Tournaments, Best High Limit Room, and Best Comps. Ultimately, the prize of Best Overall Gaming Resort was given to Mohegan Sun.

Foxwoods

The “Wonder of It All” in Ledyard, Connecticut, did very well. Gaming Awards include Best Casino, Best Players Club, Best VIP Services, and Best Table Game Tournaments. Best Video Slots, Best Live Poker, and Best Roulette rounded out the Foxwoods Superlatives.

Encore Boston Harbor

The jewel of New England did fairly well, but not as good as expected. Encore Boston Harbor pulled in Best Hotel Staff, Best Table Games, Best Poker Room, and Best Blackjack.

Twin River Casino

Did you know Twin River casino had the Best Dealers, Best Carnival Games, and Best Video Poker? In tomorrow’s post, Part 2 of Casino Player Best of Gaming Awards – New England Casinos, these awards will be discussed. Best Video Poker? I don’t think so. But, the best slots should have been a consideration.

Plainridge Park & MGM Springfield

According to Casino Player, Plainridge Park is the Casino Where You Feel Luckiest In. It’s also the best Non-Smoking Casino / Area.

MGM Springfield won Best Suites and Best Hosts. It seems to me that MGM Springfield offers more. Slots are especially competitive with the rest of New England, but more of that in tomorrow’s breakdown.

Summary

Again, it’s a tough job to size up the best in the country. But, in our opinion, some properties should have been recognized. Maybe, Casino Player requires the help of someone that actually visits all nine casinos in New England?

Just sayin’………
