Today we look at the biggest casinos in the USA. The criteria is solely based on square footage of gaming space.
But the size of a casino doesn’t mean it’s one of the best. Consider Main St. Station, Downtown Las Vegas – great gaming in a small space. which reminds me – I wonder what is considered the best casino in New England?
If you haven’t voted for the best in New England’s Casinos…..

Back to today’s post. Where do you think the largest casinos are in the U.S.A.? Most are convinced that Foxwoods is THE largest, but that’s just not the case anymore – since it’s down-sizing after the 2007 recession.
But how do you compare? If you count the entire complex of hotels, restaurants, entertainment venues, and retail at Tanger Outlets alone, Foxwoods would still be the largest. But, considering sheer gambling space, Foxwoods comes in second, with Mohegan Sun a close third.
The largest “casino” in America is “WinStar World Casino & Resort” in Thackerville, Oklahoma. 7,400 gaming machines (almost double that of Foxwoods or Mohegan) & 97 table games grace the 519,000 Square foot casino. For a “one-on-one” comparison of Foxwoods vs. Winstar, read the following post
So, if there was a top 10, then the rest are probably in Las Vegas, right? – Wrong again!
In fact, Steve Beauregard of Gambool!, and Steve Bourie of The American Casino Guide show stats that don’t even list a Las Vegas casino in the Top 10 – and they both forgot another New England Casino in the process.
One casino neglected to get recognized. It resides in Lincoln, Rhode Island. The two-floor Twin River Casino, has over 300,000 sq. feet of casino, over 4500 games and over 80 table games. If we follow Mr. Beauregard’s criteria using square feet of gaming space and # of games,Twin River should be considered the 4th largest “casino” in the country, right behind Mohegan Sun! Imagine that, lil’ ole’ New England has three of the four largest casinos in the country!
The Top 10, starting with the largest: WinStar (600,000 sq. ft.); Foxwoods(344,000sq. ft.); Mohegan Sun (300,000sq. ft.); Twin River Casino Hotel (300,000sq. ft.); San Manuel Casino, Highland, CA (220,000sq. ft.); Riverwind Casino, Norman, OK (219,000sq. ft.); Choctaw Casino Resort Durant, Durant, OK (218,000sq. ft.); Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort, Mount Pleasant, MI (210,000sq. ft.); Pechanga Resort & Casino,Temecula, CA (200,000sq. ft.); Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino,
Tampa, FL (200,000sq. ft.).
Remember, this does not include hotel space, convention space, restaurants, bars, spa……and all the rest of a resort’s square footage. That would take a little more time…..maybe next year.
