lotteryI think three basic personalities battle to come out of us when we visit the casino – the practical, the risky, and the fun-loving.

I have always thought that a true gambler is not one that takes chances on the biggest gamble, but a true gambler is the person who gambles using the best strategy, the best odds, and the best overall advantage. I try to find the best video poker pay tables where ever I play, and yet I will play Monopoly PartyTrain for hours?  Logical, in control……not really.

Stepping into a casino can make a person fickle, and maybe the difference in generations does influence the different faces in the casino because of the type of gambler they are. download (1)The face of gambling is changing the industry says, referring to the millennials generation.

Wah, wah, wah – poor casinos, making money hand over foot while cutting back gambler comps and advantages while adding resort fees, parking fees, pool fees – what’s next, taking away hotel rooms for smokers?  Oh yeah, MGM is way ahead of that in Las Vegas.  Wah, wah, wah…….

So, what makes the industry so concerned about this younger generation? Here’s what I think the differences might be:

Gambler – Play full pay 8/5 Bonus video poker, 9/6 JOB
Millennial – Play 7/5 Draw poker because the bar has a great beer menu!

Gambler – Play $1 3-reel slot with higher payback percentage (usually)
Millennial – Play my favorite penny slot, progressive or not, and the more similar to a video game with skill involved, the better.

Gambler – Will play low house advantage games to sustain a bankroll, increase comps, and increase card level
Millennial – Will play only part of bankroll, since they need more money for the clubs.

Gambler – I’ll just stop by the casino, have a nice meal on my $20 voucher and go home without playing, knowing next play will be serious to increase Daily Theoretical.
Millennial – Is into happiness, socializing with friends, and the experience.  Saving time and money for the “experience” is just more important.  Stopping at the casino just for a meal is an unwanted tease.

So, maybe it is time for casinos to start considering this younger generation and their preferences.

OR……..Hey, here’s an idea –

HOW ABOUT CATERING TO EVERYONE IN THE NEW YEAR WITH BETTER GAMBLING OPTIONS, BETTER PAY TABLES, MORE COMPS, BETTER SERVICE AND HOSPITALITY, FEWER FEES, AND, oh I don't know, CARING MORE FOR THE CUSTOMER, NO MATTER WHO THEY ARE!!!!

That felt good. Have a safe and Happy New Year’s Eve, everyone.  remember to check out the NYE options right here for your New England Casinos.  Truthfully, if you haven’t made plans by now, you might be better off watching the ball drop at home.
