It might be a whirlwind time for Connecticut’s casinos, battling the expansion of Massachusetts and the additional options in Rhode Island (not to mention a third casino proposal in CT) but, it’s time to take a break from all that. ARE YOU READY FOR SOME BASKETBALL?!!!
The Connecticut Sun, one of two Professional Sports Teams at Mohegan Sun (the other is the New England Black Wolves of the National Lacrosse League) had a meet and greet with their new coach, Curt Miller last night and NETimeGambling was there to take part. Over 200 hundred season ticket holders turned out to welcome their new coach for the upcoming season at Arroga’s 32 on the Mohegan Sun Campus.
Yes, it’s “Miller Time” for the CT Sun.
After coach Anne Donovan’s resignation in October, The Sun found themselves looking for a new coach. So, who better to ask for advice but Geno Auriemma, Uconn’s Hall of Fame coach. A name Auriemma threw out was Miller’s.
Miller, who won 290 games in college, left Indiana two years into a six-year deal for personal reasons. And after Brian Agler left as coach for Seattle to become coach of the Sparks, he recruited him to Los Angeles to help him coach the Sparks.”I recruited him,” Agler said. “He’s an exceptional coach. We adapted a lot of his offense [into the Sparks] because I felt it would transition well into the league because of his floor spacing. He does a great job of teaching it and he believes in it.”
After a disappointing year full of injuries last year, the CT Sun are thrilled to have Curt as their coach. With a promising group of young players healthy, maybe a few veterans back (can you hear us Kelsey Griffin?) and an experienced and highly regarded coach, this could be the year back to the playoffs.
GM Chris Sienko mentioned to NETimeGambling at the event that he was thrilled with the turnout. He also mentioned that the Arena at Mohegan Sun was a big part of the the CT Sun and the Mohegan Sun Resort & Casino’s success. Compared to other New England casinos present & future, he replied “It’s the one thing that none of the other [casinos] have, or will have.”
The bandwagon has already begun. It’s Miller Time. All Aboard!
