thThis week, Plainridge Park Casino opens as the first Massachusetts Casino and the seventh casino in New England.

Less than twenty years ago, New England had only two full casinos, both in CT, and two in RI soon after that added class II gaming to it’s Jai Alai Fronton in Newport and to Lincoln Greyhound Park (later becoming Twin River Casino.)

The first page starts with a look at the RI / MA border.  Twin River Casino has been raising the stakes in the area by first adding table games to keep the Ocean State’s gambling at home, instead of traveling to Connecticut’s two huge casinos.  So far, it seems to have paid off.  But now, a bigger threat to Rhode Island’s third largest source of revenue just north of it’s former greyhound track. NE Time Gambling will be covering the soft opening of Plainridge Park Casino, the first Massachusetts casino of four planned in the Bay State. The public opening is scheduled for Wednesday, June 24th.

Rhode Island’s biggest threats are years away in Region C. New Bedford & Brockton are vying for the last license, and if New Bedford gets the nod, it and Everett’s Wynn casino will be problematic for Twin River.  However, with some problems with the Everett site, the wait for the license in Region C, and the ever questionable Wampanog casino proposal, all eyes are on Plainville for now.

Below is a casino comparison of Twin River & Plainridge Park. Coverage of the soft opening at Plainridge Park will appear in Tuesday’s post.  And don’t forget, tomorrow is the weekly Sunday coverage of next week’s best promotions in each of New England’s Casinos.
