Connecticut Racebook in the Quiet Corner

As my wife and I were passing through northeastern Connecticut, the “Quiet Corner ” of CT, we thought we’d stop at a restaurant in Putnam called JD Coopers.

Known for years for it’s good food, both on the restaurant side and the sports bar side, and quality entertainment, JD Coopers is a staple for the Sports Bar crowd up there.  But we found out is that it has added a new wrinkle called “Winners” in the sports bar.  Winners is one of 15 currently licensed OTB / Race-books in Connecticut.

It’s is open 7 days a week to take your action on the hottest horse and greyhound racing and jai alai from all over the world. . The betting room has all of the amenities you need, huge flat-screen TV’s as well as individual seating with personal monitors. Adding to the experience is JD Coopers restaurant and  sports bar with an outdoor patio. Snacks, appetizers, or a full meal are available. Sit in the sports bar and enjoy a drink while placing your wagers.

While I didn’t wager, it seemed very comfy and as nice as a race-book in a casino – only much smaller.  But the food is as good, if not better, and the atmosphere must be exciting at night – especially weekends.

It’s run by Sportech Pls, who also runs the other 14 facilities around the state.  There is also a Winners Rewards club.  It’s much like any casino rewards club:

  • Free to join, it costs nothing
  • You will earn Winners Rewards points for every dollar wagered
  • No minimums
  • Reward points can be used to wager, for handicapping information, food & beverage and select merchandise

That’s all for now.
