Mass Casino Update #2
- April 2nd – Boston residents narrowly support Suffolk Downs’s plan to develop a casino at the track, though the intensity of the opposition could make for a tough campaign if the gambling proposal were to face a citywide vote, according to a Boston Globe poll
- April 2nd – A hearing in a federal lawsuit that seeks to open Southeastern Massachusetts to commercial casino bids has been delayed until 11 a.m. April 11.The Massachusetts Expanded Gaming Act gives the Mashpee Wampanoag Indian tribe first preference for a Region C casino, which prompted KG Urban Enterprises to file suit arguing that the tribal preference is a “race-based set aside” that violates the U.S. Constitution.
- At the same time in East Springfield – residents met with an anti-casino group Monday night to talk about possible negative effects of having a casino in their backyard. Members of Citizens Against Casino Gaming said problems with robberies, car thefts and aggravated assaults will increase if a casino comes to Springfield.
I will try to include up-to-the-day news concerning the on-going process of Casino Expansion in Massachusetts. So, watch for daily Mass headlines as a part of each post.
That’s all for now.
