"Sun" Sunday featuring Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville

“Wastin away again in margaritaville…”

Wait a minute – Margaritaville is not just a “local drinking hole, ” it’s a family restaurant, an entertainment venue, a store and more!

Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville, located in Casino of the Wind, is Jimmy Buffett’s island escape that “brings diners from the woodlands of Connecticut to the warm beaches of the Florida Keys.” Mohegan Sun is its only New England location.

I have visited Margaritaville at Mohegan Sun more than a few times in the past. So, let’s start with a brief dining review:

I find that the service is usually good, but a little slow at peek times. The servers are very friendly, and one time included a server on stilts for the kids. (pretty cool.)

I consider the food overpriced, but read the rest of this post before using that as the criteria for visiting. One time I ordered Cheeseburger in Paradise and I thought it was small, and the meal was not really worth the price. (Matter of fact, if you are gambling and looking for a break and a bite to eat, don’t bother here.)

I would gladly suggest three menu items which I love to order.
First, try the Volcano Nachos – an excellent appetizer that could feed a family of four! Topped with chili, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, jalapenos, tomatoes, and scallions.
Try their Cuban Sandwich for your entree, and then save room to share their (drum roll, please)
Chocolate Hurricane – Warm dark chocolate brownie layered with Edy’s vanilla bean ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream, and chopped macadamia nuts.

The special drinks are very interesting. They even serve up those margaritas from an eight-foot tall giant blender! And while I’m not much of a mixed, fancy-type-of-drink person, many friends have commented on their wonderful mixed drink menu.

The restaurant’s entertainment factor include boats made into tables, Jimmy Buffet music & videos, and a hurricane advisory every hour – the good kind, not the real thing.  The atmosphere is a lot of fun.  It’s a great place to bring the family before a concert or CT Sun game – but get there early!

The BVR rating (Binbin’s Value Rating) = A Flush
Remember, a flush isn’t just 5 cards in a row (a straight), there all the same suit.  The “Fun” at Margaritaville makes the difference between a straight and a flush.

Don’t forget the retail boutique – grab some souvenirs to take home; you’ll find everything from T-shirts and flip flops to Jimmy Buffett CDs and Frozen Concoction Makers.
